Hickory Neck Church
Background
Blisland Parish has served James City, York, and New Kent counties. There were two churches in colonial times. The lower church in Blisland Parish is known as Hickory Neck Church. The upper church, also known as Brick Church, was known as Warranigh, Warrany, or Warrenay church.
Overview
The records of Blisland Parish refer to Gilmans. Whether this is a corruption of Gilliam is not yet known. Gilliams are found in adjacent Saint Peter’s Parish. These Gilmans could possibly be the Gilmans that are found later in the records of Hanover County, VA.
